The Criminal Justice program serves to prepare majors for professional careers in the criminal justice system.
The objectives of the criminal justice emphasis in public safety are that students will:
- demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of the criminal justice system including its three major components: police, courts, and corrections (Academic);
- cultivate the skills and abilities necessary for successful participation in the criminal justice community, including honesty, integrity, and Christ-like character (Vocational);
- demonstrate a biblically-informed worldview and apply that worldview to all the decisions they make and the actions they take (Christian);
- demonstrate and understand the requirements of serving as a member of the criminal justice system and the sacrifices required of those who are called to serve (Patriotic);
- exhibit an understanding of how different people of various cultures interact with members of the criminal justice system in the United States (Cultural).
Dependent on career orientation, majors are advised to complete an additional major or minor in one or more of the following: Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, or Speech Communication.
Requirements:
Required major courses: 37 credit hours
Required collateral courses: 12 credit hours
