Bachelor of Science

The D. Howard Doane Chair of Agriculture was established in 1976 as a result of an endowment from Dr. and Mrs. Doane.

The aim of the agriculture major is to prepare students to fill an expanding demand for persons trained in the liberal arts along with the practical, scientific, and technical aspects of agriculture. The department seeks to develop students and graduates who embody the College’s vision and five-fold mission.

The department’s objectives for students majoring in agriculture are that they will:

  • demonstrate intellectual and social proficiency in speaking and writing knowledgeably of agricultural disciplines, and gain the foundation for ongoing learning and a flourishing informed life (Academic);
  • understand the value of hard work as fundamental to the human condition and the many values gained from excellence in vocational endeavors (Vocational);
  • understand and appreciate God as Provider and their role in stewardship of physical and spiritual food (Christian);
  • demonstrate values of civic responsibilities in agricultural pursuits, creation stewardship, and communities (Patriotic);
  • understand that an educated, cultured life and a life of high personal standards is glorifying to God (Cultural).

Animal Science Major Requirements: 48 credit hours

(BIO 1014  or BIO 114  and CHE 1004  or CHE 114  must be met prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.)
