General Information:
Bachelor of Science
The objectives of the family studies and social services major are that students will:
- explore and develop a knowledge of behavioral theories, therapeutic models, research, and helping skills in the field of marriage and family and the field of social work (Academic);
- acquire practical skills within the helping profession in order to be prepared for a variety of careers within the social services field (Vocational);
- explore the impact of Christianity on the helping professions and learn the importance and challenges of integrating faith within the social services field (Christian);
- develop a passion for civic engagement by gaining an appreciation for American ideals and the connection of these ideals to the traditional family (Patriotic);
- utilize a systemic approach in understanding the interconnectedness of the individual, family, and various other subsystems that create and maintain the broader community, so that students are equipped with the necessary knowledge to have a lasting impact on the world (Cultural).
All majors are required to complete an exit exam before graduation.
