Music Minor

Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science

The Music major provides students with a choice of five emphases and one minor. The objectives of the Music major are to: 1) provide students with an understanding of the historical eras in the development of Western music and the ability to recognize major musical styles, composers and representative works; 2) develop a comprehension of and ability to use specialized terminology and concepts of music theory and composition with examination of styles of composition from all the historic style periods; 3) provide students the opportunity to develop musical performance skills through applied lessons, ensemble participation and performance in recitals, concerts and musicals, competitions and master classes, and attendance at live professional performances; 4) help students develop a personal repertoire of performance music and a working knowledge of music literature, composers and styles, culminating in the development of a portfolio; 5) practical musicianship is fostered through the aural training and keyboard curricula. 6) preparation for a professional career in music includes all of the above plus several specialized courses designed to prepare the student for her/his chosen career path.

Requirements:


Required minor courses: 23 credit hours


Note:


The Piano Proficiency exam is not required for minors.

MUS 100 /MUS 300 - Music Seminar  is not required for minors.
