Agriculture Major - Agronomy Emphasis, B.A./B.S.

The D. Howard Doane Chair of Agriculture was established in 1976 as a result of an endowment from Dr. and Mrs. Doane.

The purpose of the Agriculture major is to prepare students to fill an expanding demand for persons who are basically trained in the liberal arts as well as practical and scientific aspects of agriculture.

The specific objectives are as follows: 1) demonstrate the ability to speak and write clearly and knowledgeably in the field of agriculture; 2) demonstrate the ability to recognize problems and propose solutions in animal, plant and soil management systems; 3) demonstrate knowledge of agriculture production and processing technology.

As a minimum demonstration of having met these objectives, the student majoring in agriculture will pass all courses that he is required to take as a part of his major program and will have a 2.0 grade average in those courses.

Students majoring in agriculture must select one emphasis or up to a maximum of two emphases, if desired.

Requirements:


Required collateral core courses of all Agriculture majors: 9 credit hours


  • *
  • One additional Speech (SPC) course * (3 credit hours)
  • One Foreign Language (SPA, GRK, or HEB) course (3 credit hours)

General Education courses specified by the major: 8 credit hours


One of the following: 4 credit hours


(must be met prior to the completion of 60 credit hours)

One of the following: 4 credit hours


(must be met prior to the completion of 60 credit hours)

Note:


(*ENG 333  and one additional speech course are not required for Agriculture Education majors)

(**BIO 104  or BIO 114  required of Animal Science Emphasis majors)

(***Required for Horticulture and Agronomy Emphases)

Agronomy Emphasis:


Required collateral courses: 13 credit hours


Note:


BIO 124  and either CHE 104  or CHE 114  must be met prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.
