General Information:
Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science
The Communication Arts degree prepares students for today’s diverse and evolving business, professional, and academic fields. This major consists of five emphases: Journalism, Public Relations, Radio Production, Speech Communication and Video Production. Each emphasis will enhance students’ critical thinking, communication and field-specific technology skills. Graduates will: 1.) understand the functionality of both communication and media within society and 2.) develop knowledge and skills necessary to function as a productive member in the field.
A student may not major in more than one emphasis in Communication Arts. Students majoring in Speech Communication or Public Relations may not minor in Speech Communication.
Requirements:
Core courses required of all Communication Arts Majors: 15 credit hours
One of the following: 3 credit hours
General Education courses specified by the major: 6 credit hours
Speech Communication Emphasis:
Speech Communication Emphasis courses: 21 credit hours
One of the following: 3 credit hours (Excluding Core choice of SPC 313 or SPC 333)
One of the following: 3 credit hours
Required collateral courses: 9 credit hours
Additional Requirements:
Maintain a 2.0 GPA in Communication Arts core courses and courses within major area of emphasis. |
